In today’s blog post, we’ll delve into the truth behind viral marketing.
You’ve heard these buzzwords everywhere: “go viral,” “viral marketing hacks,” “growth hacking.”
I’m going to explain exactly what it takes to achieve rapid growth and explosive success in business, real viral marketing.
This isn’t a matter of chance or luck. It’s a science and a path well trodden by loads of businesses.
Let’s dive straight in.
Many people believe that if they simply create a compelling video, product, or service and hope someone retweets it, they’ll achieve viral success. However, this is a MASSIVE misconception.
If you rely solely on luck for your success, almost all of you will be setting yourself up for disappointment.
Another common misconception is that if you know how to market your content, website, or business using growth hacking or viral marketing tactics, you’ll be successful.
This is simply not true. Today, I’m going to provide you with a straightforward guide on how to go viral in business.
Rapid growth and explosive success in business cannot be achieved without achieving a concept known as “product market fit.” This is the foundation of any successful business.
So, what exactly is product market fit?
This implies that you possess a product that the market yearns for, they truly desire, and are willing to invest their hard-earned money to make it a reality.
Your product doesn’t necessarily need to be a life-saving cure, but it must resonate with people’s genuine desires. It could be entertainment, pleasure, or simply for fun. However, if it achieves a level of excitement and awe, leaving people in awe, saying, “You know what, this is great. This is amazing,” that’s what truly matters.
I’ve never encountered anything like this before, and nothing has ever achieved this level of impact before. I simply must have it. That irresistible desire, that feeling we’ve all experienced as consumers, is what drives success.
Think about the first iPhone, released in 2007. Everyone was captivated by its innovative features, such as the pinch and zoom, scrolling, and the massive screen. Apple didn’t resort to viral tactics or growth hacking to achieve this success. Instead, they created a product that people genuinely craved.
If I could offer any advice to anyone in business, it would be to focus on creating such a product.
Whether you have a product or service, any business venture, or anything you offer your customers, if it addresses a pain point or fulfils a specific need within a particular marketplace or audience, your life and business will be significantly easier. You won’t have to worry about tactics or influencer partnerships.
It doesn’t necessarily have to be groundbreaking innovation.
Here’s a great example for you. Canva is a graphic design app that anyone can use.
Did Canva invent graphic design? Of course not. Adobe had Photoshop decades before them, which I’ve been using for almost as long.
However, why is Canva a $6 billion company?
Because they recognised that Photoshop is complex and challenging. Many individuals want to create flyers, banners, PowerPoint slides, and cover art for their pages on FB, IG, TT, YT, etc.
Using Photoshop is difficult and time-consuming. Technically Canva created an inferior product compared to Adobe Photoshop. You can’t perform certain tasks that Photoshop can.
Nevertheless, Canva fulfilled a need.
People want to do some graphic design, create quick mockups, and complete the process quickly and efficiently. They don’t necessarily want to hire a designer or learn a complex software. Product, market, fit, and boom! Canva doesn’t need to sell anything.
They don’t need to promote anything because their product sells itself. It fulfils a need.
Next, it’s crucial that your product not only has market fit but also be genuinely good. You can’t out-market a great product.
Tesla recently became the most profitable car company in the world, and they do zero marketing or advertising. They don’t have billboards or commercials, unlike other car companies that spend millions monthly on these.
So, how did they achieve this? Because their product aligns perfectly with the market. It’s desired.
People want a fast and stylish electric car. So, forget everything you’ve heard about viral marketing and influencer marketing.
Focus solely on creating an exceptional product that people love. Make them wow, delight, and leave them wanting to share it with others.
That’s the truth. If you don’t have a great product, you’re setting yourself up for trouble. So, prioritise 80% of your business energy on making your product solve a specific pain point for your audience exceptionally well.
Continuous improvement of your product or service is also important for two reasons.
If you improve the product now you’ll attract more customers to buy it.
The market changes and so do your customers, review your product or service in real time means you’re proactively improving and changing in realtime with changes that impact the perception of what you’re offering. You’ll never be behind the market and impact your sales in a negative way.
Identify what your audience dislikes about other products in the industry and what annoys them. Then, solve these problems in your product. Do it so effectively that they can’t ignore you.
Creating a business, product, or service that sells itself is an incredible feat.
The strategy of crafting a remarkable product for a specific group of people is not a one-time success. It’s not a fleeting viral sensation that quickly fades away. It’s not a social media post or a celebrity endorsement that loses its impact.
Instead, it’s a product that continues to gain strength and improve with each passing day. Its success lies in its exceptional performance and the delight it brings to its customers.
You have to focus on delighting your customers and solving their problems better than anyone else. Don’t overcomplicate things; a simple product or service can be just as effective if it excels in its purpose.
This is the key to exponential growth; good things are inherently captivating and hard to ignore.
The truth is, very few things in life have an easy answer or a quick fix. And business is no different. You’re building a legacy—something that will last a lifetime and serve you and your customers for generations to come.
So, it has to be great. There are no shortcuts about it.
